The Scream
Edvard Munch created four versions of the same picture in between the years 1893 and 1910, which he gave a common name – the scream of nature. The pictures show the same thing – a person is holding his face, with a pained expression on his face. The background is in orange and blue and brown. The picture is supposed to express the horror and trauma man faces in the modern world. The four versions of the picture were made with different mediums – two were made in painting, while two other in pastels.
The paintings express the painter’s own sense of depression and unhappiness, which he wanted to express in the form of the scream. To me, it shows how man feels futile, angry and unhappy, and needs to release his inner sorrow, grief or agony. The colors, orange, show the weariness and depression around him, which makes him feel unhappy and in need to scream.
