The Night Watch-Rembrant van Rijn

One of the most important paintings in the history of Art is “The Night Watch”. And is also the most complex. There are around 28 persons in the painting including three children and a dog. The most prominent in the painting are Captain Purmerlandt and Lieutenant Von Vlaerdingen. Many scholars have tried to explain the figures in the painting and their movements.

How the dynamic painting can be explained? The captain of the company has given the order to advance his men. But the order has not yet been received by his subordinates. It seems that if we keep on looking at the picture, the captain and the lieutenant will begin marching and their subordinates will follow after hesitating. The men at the right will begin rolling the drum and will be accompanied by barks of dogs.

This mysterious painting also shows a girl carrying a chicken and an architecture in the background.
